emacs23 software package provides The GNU Emacs editor (with GTK+ user interface), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install emacs23
emacs23 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the emacs23 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep emacs23 *
You will get with emacs23 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
